Ukrainian Church torn from Moscow

Ukrainian authorities seek to complete separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) from the Russian. Yesterday, taking a delegation of the Constantinople Patriarchate, President Viktor Yushchenko and the primate of the self-proclaimed Kiev Patriarchate, Patriarch Filaret (Denisenko) reaffirmed Ukraine’s intention to create a single local church. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I sought to subordinate it to yourself. Moscow expresses “concern”, but her plan of action yet unclear.
