Outcome of the Conference “The special status of Sevastopol and its realities,”

October 13, 2010 in Sevastopol, in the conference hall LLC MKDTS House of Moscow in Sevastopol, “the international conference” The special status of Sevastopol and its realities. ”

The key issues of the conference were:
- The role of Sevastopol in the whole complex of Russian-Ukrainian relations;
- The global experience of the naval bases on the territory of other states;
- The fate of the law on the special status of Sevastopol;
- Prospects for expansion of cooperation between the city of Sevastopol, Crimea with Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The conference began with a minute’s silence in memory of victims of the accident on Oct. 12 at a railway crossing in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Conference participants adopted the Resolution and Address of the conference participants to candidates for mayor of Moscow - Sobyanin, V. Shantsev, I. Levitin, L. Shevtsova.

Participants of the conference “The special status of Sevastopol and its realities” examined and discussed the historical special status of Sevastopol, which since its inception and throughout the 227 years served as the main base of the Black Sea Fleet and its real position in the independent Ukraine, came to a conclusion about the need early adoption of the Law of Ukraine on the hero-city Sevastopol, which would eliminate the glaring discrepancy between the right to self-government among the inhabitants of Sevastopol and other Ukrainian citizens. Sevastopol denied the right to elect the head of the city and it should be corrected.

The actual refusal to review the law on the status of Sevastopol - the same mistake as the delay in adopting the bill Efremova - Symonenko-C. Grinevetsky on languages in Ukraine. ” These bills reduce inequality in compliance with civil rights and Sevastopol until they are adopted, doubts will remain in power.
