Parliament voted in favor of reducing the powers of Timoshenko

Parliament of Ukraine adopted in first reading a bill on the Cabinet of Ministers, which limits the powers of head of government in favor of the president. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
document sent to the Rada Viktor Yushchenko, supported mainly by the representatives of the ruling “orange” coalition (the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the pro-presidential bloc PSD). Party of Regions and the Communist Party of Ukraine, which after the September elections were in opposition, did not participate in voting.

Under the bill, the president shall have the right to reject the candidature of the Prime Minister, which he submits for approval by the parliamentary coalition. The coalition, in turn, loses the right to make their own candidate to head the government.

If the new law on the cabinet will come into force, ministers will no longer be able to challenge the legality of presidential decrees. President, for its part, will be entitled to suspend the government’s decision, if in his opinion, do not correspond to the country’s constitution.

Some deputies proposed to adopt the document at once in the second reading, but Rada Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk refused to once again put to the vote. He referred to the parliamentary rules by which the bill after the first reading should be sent for completion.
