Gazprom, Ukraine has put forward a new ultimatum

Russia’s gas monopoly Gazprom, March 3 at 10:00 Moscow time on 25 percent would reduce gas supplies to Ukraine, if not resolved differences between it and the Government of Ukraine. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“Gazprom has put forward a new ultimatum to Ukraine a few hours after a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Viktor Yushchenko. This conversation, as reported by the press office of President of Russia, took place on Russia’s initiative.

According to the official representative of “Gazprom” Sergei Kupriyanov, the Ukraine settled already 1,9 billion cubic meters of unpaid Kiev gas. “Then this can not last”, - said the representative of the monopoly.

February 8, 2008, Gazprom has promised to cut gas supplies to Ukraine from 12 February, if Naftogaz does not pay the debt, estimated by Russia and a half billion dollars. However, after talks in Moscow between Vladimir Putin and Viktor Yushchenko supply reduction was avoided. In addition, the Presidents agreed to remove from the gas contracts between the two traders - the Swiss company Rosukrenergo and Ukrainian Ukrgaz-Energo. They will be replaced by two joint venture of Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom.

A few days after the talks the two presidents of Ukraine started to pay the debt to Gazprom, but it is not entirely paid off. And in the second half of February, a visit to Moscow Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko. It held further talks at Gazprom, but they have not resulted in the signing of any agreements. In addition, after negotiations Yulia Tymoshenko said that Ukraine’s gas balance of the disappeared four billion cubic meters of gas, and she learned about it only during his visit to Moscow.
